Everything works - but only with API and not with rel

I use this on a website with contenido as CMS and url_rewrite enabled.
Everything works fine, but only if i use prettyphoto with the api method like this:
If i use this syntax:
it functions as a normal link and opens the image in the following page.
Any ideas for help would be very appreciated, because i like to open gallerys with the rel method.
