challenges with default_height & allowresize

Hi there..
I'm working with a Wordpress Template that uses PrettyPhoto (amazing plugin, thank ye!)
I'm having some serious challenges adjusting the heights on the images... I've even changed the heights of the images themselves, but they're still loading Larger than they actually Are. I want them to be a max height of 550 pixels.
It seems to me they're loading more like 640 pixels, basically, the entire height of the screen. I want them to be smaller so there's a little margin at the top and bottom of the screen.
PLUS, I've been setting the 'allowresize' to false, so I don't have the resize button in the top right... Which I prefer... I just want the images to all be a fixed height of 550... I've edited the default_height & default_width to 550 & 367 respectively, with absolutely no success.....
