Launch a Gallery From a Single Thumbnail?

I'm trying to launch a gallery of related images from a single thumbnail instead of from a grid of multiple thumbnails.
Is this possible? If so what's the best course of action.

Hi,
create your gallery as usual and wrap the a href... - tags of the thumbnails which should not be visible with a (span style="display: none")...(/span). If done so only the thumbnails desired will be visible but the gallery works with all images!

That works fine, but now the gallery view shows all of the images from that page. I have three thumbnails with two large gallery pictures each. If I click on the first thumbnail, I can click through all 6 gallery items. the two first ones correspond to the thumbnails, but the others two don't. How can I break this link?

I have the problem that i already have the menu's but my images start at image 11 instead of image 1. Anybody have a solution for that?

I'm new at webdesign, I'm not sure how to do what you are saying here? I want to do this, but I'm not sure how to do what you are talking about. Can you be more specific, please?

I have followed this method and it surely does work. Unfortunately, using CSS "display: none" on the thumbnails you don't want to see on the main page, makes invisible also the "title=" tags used for description, so the 1st image (the only visible) may have a descriptive text, while all the others (the hidden thumbnails) are shown with no description.
Does anybody have a solution/alternate way to show the descrptions for *all* images of a gallery triggered by a single thumbnail?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! -
@bryn: when using the ppgallery-plugin for Joomla! (like NSPRWA is doing) it will work fine with title and alt-elements used for the caption and description in the lightbox.
And also when using the above mentioned method on a "hand-written" html-page, it will work fine!
Where (in which tag) are you putting the "display: none;"? Can you provide an url to the site where it is *not* working as expected?
